This is the Singer Motor Company, where my Dad, Thomas R. Lubert, worked in the 1950s. My Dad was the very best mechanic there (and also the smartest and most handsome)! The company was owned by Joseph P. Singer and it was on 11th Street in Barnesboro. This picture was on a business card. The phone numbers listed on the card were 698 and 699. Imagine that.....three-digit phone numbers. Submitted by Sherry Lubert.

My Mom's sister and her family in 1954. For you nostalgia buffs, she has her hair fixed like Jane Wyman, Ronald Reagan's first wife, and she has a classic 1950s-style dress. Hard to believe this was over 50 years ago! Photo taken in Hawaii, 1954 - submitted by Sherry Lubert.

This is my brother Gary in the 1950s. This is true nostalgia for those of you who remember how much fun it was to ride on the rides at the carnival. This ride was in Idlewild Park in Western Pennsylvania. The Singer Motor Company where my Dad worked sent its employees and their families there every year. We could have all the ride tickets we wanted!!! Also, we had our choice each year to go to Storybook Forest or to go swimming in the heated pool. We usually chose the pool. What fun times we had!!!

April 1966….I was head majorette of the Northern Cambria championship majorette team a long time ago. (Notice the TV and curtains from the 1960s, the phone from the 1950s, the chair from the 1960s, the telephone stand from the 1940s, the radiator from 1949, the year my Dad built this house. The good old days!)

Thomas R. Lubert - Barnesboro - submitted by Sherry Lubert.

This is a picture of my dad in the 1940s or 1950s. He was the smartest and kindest man I ever knew, truly my hero. I love him very much.

Gary Richard Lubert was born July 18, 1951. He was a very nice, smart, good-looking guy. He was a member of the Northern Cambria Championship Band and he was the star of his high school play. He graduated from high school and went to college at Shippensburg, PA. In May of 1972 he suffered a stroke caused by an inoperable brain tumor. The stroke resulted in him losing the ability to see, hear, walk, or talk. He was rushed to the University of Philadelphia Hospital in a plane.

Gary worked hard every day and learned to see, hear, walk, and talk all over again.  With great difficulty, he went back and graduated from college.  He married and had two wonderful daughters.  The AVM in his head got worse and he is not here with us anymore.  I miss him every day.   I wish you would have known him.   He had a wonderful faith and was the best brother ever! - submitted by sister, Sherry.

Here I am with my wonderful brother Gary on his wedding day in 1973. Imagine that just a year before that he had a major stroke and could not talk or walk. He learned to do that all over again. I miss my brother every single day.

Life was so good in the fifties!!! I wish I were back there with my doll. My Mom and Dad made everything so safe and good. I hope my kids and their kids can look on their childhood in the positive way I look on my childhood growing up in Pennsylvania.
